The national crisis that has yielded the chaos in Washington DC was easy to see coming more than two decades ago. I first wrote about the economic shock waves associated with the baby-boomer retirement back in 1996. And it’s not just our pension and healthcare systems that are collapsing under the pressure of 75 million elderly. All our institutions – education (schools), science (universities), the arts, law enforcement, our businesses and corporations, and the economy in general – are deeply suffering under the demands of that budget-busting bulge of decrepitude. By the way, I am one of those decrepit baby boomers myself.

The good news is that with crisis comes opportunity. The next decades will be difficult for us all. But, we will emerge from this crisis stronger and better off than we can now imagine. What we need to do in the short-run is keep the peace and keep from killing each other.

I am running for Congress in 2018 under this banner. I am not running under any party. Both the Republicans and Democrats in Washington DC have become the destructive, vengeful tribes George Washington warned us about in his Farewell Address. I will also accept no donations, but will depend on volunteers, discussion groups, and inexpensive social media in my campaign. The incumbent in the 45th Congressional District of California is Mimi Walters (R).

Martin Wisckol reports in the Orange County Register:

Such talk comes from a place of authority. He was a business professor at UC Irvine from 1989 to 2010. He’s currently co-director at the business school’s Center for Global Leadership, and has five books in print on international business negotiation and consumer behavior. He’s also published books on drug policy and on the trend toward multi-generational households.

Articles on my books and other works have appeared in the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, the Washington Post, the Los Angeles Times, Investors’ Daily, Smithsonian Magazine, BusinessWeek, the AARP Bulletin, USA Weekend, Parade Magazine, and several other magazines and newspapers. My work has garnered more than 150 million media impressions over the years. Numerous interviews have been aired on broadcast media including the BBC, Fox News, NBC Nightly News, ABC Good Morning America, and NPR and The Hugh Hewitt Show. Currently I am Professor Emeritus and Director of the Center for Global Leadership at the Paul Merage School of Business, the University of California, Irvine. During most of the 1970s I served as an officer in the US Navy UDT/SEAL Teams.

My priorities are described in the Issues sections of this website. They are roughly organized around two goals we share, security and prosperity, for our families and our country. Security issues include health care, drug policy, homeland security, climate change, national defense, and China policy. Prosperity issues include baby-boomers, empowering people, education, taxes, immigration, free trade and locally, a new airport. I emphasize evidence-based policies for all.

I look forward to conversations with the community about these and other issues. I will be happy to speak to any group of twelve or more voters in the District. Just drop me an email at john@johngraham.us or phone 949-856-1969. Of course, please contact me if you would like to volunteer to help beyond supplying new ideas.
